Anthropic is preparing for a public listing this year. The company aims for a valuation of up to $2 trillion. This move will create a major financial gain for its investors. Both early and later-stage backers are set to see their stakes grow. Even at the current private market valuation of $965 billion, many holders already possess billions in value.

The timeline of these investments reveals the rapid growth of the AI lab. Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, entered in 2021. He joined the Series A round when the startup was valued at $461 million. His stake has grown to about 1% of the company. At current private prices, that slice is worth nearly $10 billion.

Other major players have entered at different stages. Iconiq wrote a $6 billion check last year. At that time, the company was valued at $183 billion. This late-stage bet is now worth $17 billion. It could double again when the IPO occurs. Menlo Ventures has also been a key supporter. The firm led the Series D round. It has invested over $1 billion in total. That stake is currently valued at $14 billion.

Newer investors have also seen significant returns. Sequoia backed the company earlier this year. The firm joined when the valuation was already $380 billion. It invested $3 billion to secure about 1% ownership. This move has more than doubled its initial investment so far. The growth has been swift for these recent entrants.

Sound Ventures, launched by Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher, is another notable backer. The firm put $35 million into the 2023 Series C. It later added $400 million more. That stake is now worth billions. Kutcher left the firm this year to start a new venture capital company. He remains a figure in the tech investment world.

Spark Capital holds a unique position as a board member. It invested $75 million in the 2023 Series C. The company was valued at $5 billion at that time. That small initial bet has ballooned by more than ninetyfold. The position is now worth $7 billion. This demonstrates the extreme upside potential of early AI bets.

As the listing date approaches, the stakes are high. The expected $2 trillion valuation will likely push these figures even higher. For now, the numbers reflect the current private market value. These backers are well positioned for the next phase. The AI sector continues to attract massive capital. Anthropic sits at the center of that trend.
