The NYPD is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who stabbed a woman in the neck on a busy Brooklyn bike path. The attack occurred on Friday night near Bay 17th Street on the Shore Parkway. Katie Suarez, 28, was transported to a hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Detectives say Suarez was planning to meet her father that evening. Her father discovered her after the incident. The police department has narrowed the suspect’s potential window of activity to a specific 16-minute period. Investigators are asking witnesses to call immediately if they saw Suarez between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. Friday.

No arrests have been made as of Monday. Residents who use the path frequently say they are changing their routines to feel safer. One local woman described living in constant fear despite the area's usual reputation for safety. She noted that better lighting would help, especially during the dark months.

Joanna Pelletteri, a resident of Gravesend, said she now messages her boyfriend before and after parking her car. She described feeling uneasy about using the path alone at night. The community is waiting for an update on the investigation while Suarez fights for her life.

New York State Sen. Stephen Chan is calling for long-term infrastructure changes to improve security along the route. He proposed adding arms to existing highway lights to illuminate the path better. Chan also demanded the installation of surveillance cameras and increased police patrols to monitor the area. He stated that the current lighting is insufficient for public safety.

The NYPD asks anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. Those who prefer to speak Spanish can call 1-888-57-PISTA. Tips can also be submitted through the department's website or via direct message on Twitter at @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
