U.S. Senator Ted Cruz stated on Thursday that Texas will return to Republican control. The Texas senator made the comment while discussing the results of the midterm elections held on Tuesday. He is the only remaining Republican in a top office position in the state.
Cruz appeared on Fox News with host Sean Hannity to reflect on the electoral outcome. He noted that Democrats flipped several government offices previously held by Republicans. The results included the election of candidates associated with the Democratic Socialists of America to various seats.
The senator, who faces reelection in 2030, said the election results revealed public frustration with the current administration. Many voters indicated that improvements in affordability were insufficient. Cruz argued that failing to address these daily costs equates to failing to do the job.
"At the end of the day, if you're failing at the kitchen table, you're not getting the job done," Cruz said. He added that millions of voters in Texas and across the country expressed this sentiment profoundly.
Cruz advised every elected Republican to listen to voter frustration. He called for a focus on lowering gas prices, food prices, and interest rates. He suggested that voters can worry about other issues once they can meet their basic needs and help their families succeed.
The senator described the atmosphere in Texas over the two days following the election as one of grief and shock. He traveled the state and encountered residents who were in tears. Cruz said many voters were angry but did not anticipate a nationwide trend of electing radicals to the Senate.
He noted that the elections gave Democrats a stranglehold on the Senate. He also observed that Texas flipped blue. Cruz reassured viewers that the state can recover from its new Democratic leadership.
"We're going to turn Texas around. Texas will be red again, and we are going to turn this country around," Cruz said.
Cruz suggested that the election results offer an opportunity for Democrats to adopt radical policies that worsen the cost of living. He predicted that costs would rise under Democratic leadership. He cited a potential push to ban the gasoline engine as an example of how Democrats might drive prices up to ten, twelve, or fifteen dollars per gallon.
The senator argued that Democrats would overreach in both Texas and Washington. He said this overreach would cause damage to Americans and Texans. Cruz stated that Republicans would turn the country around by standing up for free-market principles, jobs, and families.
