The Mexican Football Federation's disciplinary committee issued an eleven game suspension to a player from Tepatitlán FC on Tuesday. The ban removes the athlete from action for the remainder of the Apertura 2026 tournament. The penalty follows an incident that occurred during a match against Cancún FC last Friday.
The incident began in the 58th minute of the game. The forward, who already had one yellow card, reacted to a call by central referee Lizzet Amairany García Olvera. García issued a second yellow card to send him off. The player approached the official in an aggressive manner and shoved her before walking to the locker room.
The committee broke down the total suspension into three parts. One match covered the second yellow card. Three additional matches addressed the use of vulgar language and offensive behavior toward the referee. The remaining seven games were assigned for the physical act of shoving.
Referees' Commission officials publicly backed García shortly after the match. They stated their full support for the official who was pushed on the field. Social media users and sports media outlets quickly criticized the player's conduct. The incident drew attention to the league's ongoing fight against illegal betting, a sector where several Tepatitlán FC players have faced scrutiny.
The player offered a public apology through his club's official channels in the hours before the ruling was released. Despite the apology, the committee applied the rules strictly. The decision sends a clear message to the football community regarding physical contact with match officials.
The suspension stands as a final administrative action for this specific incident. The player will miss all remaining scheduled fixtures for his team in the current league cycle. No further financial fines were announced in the Tuesday ruling.
