San Diego County voters can cast ballots at over 150 drop boxes or in-person vote centers to bypass potential Election Day lines. The Registrar of Voters mailed 1.8 million reminder postcards on October 28 to registered voters who had not submitted a ballot as of October 16.

The county has distributed mail ballots to every active registered voter. Residents may return these forms by mail without postage, place them in an official drop box, or deliver them to a vote center. Voters must seal the ballot in the provided envelope and sign it for the ballot to count.

Mailed ballots require a postmark by November 3. The Registrar of Voters must receive these mailings within seven days of Election Day for them to be valid. Ballots placed in official drop boxes or vote centers must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on November 3.

Vote centers began opening in phases to manage crowds. All locations operate daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting October 31. On November 3, the final day of voting, all vote centers, drop boxes, and the Registrar’s office extend hours to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Early voting allows election officials to process ballots quickly. This ensures inclusion in the first release of election night results. The Registrar encourages voters to act now to reduce wait times at polling locations.

Voters can track the status of their ballot through the California Secretary of State’s online service. The tool shows when the ballot was mailed, received, and counted.

San Diego voters should review their voter information pamphlet before visiting a vote center. This election uses a two-card ballot. Marking selections on the sample ballot beforehand helps voters transfer choices to the official ballot using the Ballot Marking Device.
