The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Dallas Cowboys 33-30 on Sunday, capping a dramatic finish that saw the home team surrender 23 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. The loss drops the Cowboys to a 3-5 record on the season, extending their inability to win consecutive games under second-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Arizona took a lead late in the fourth quarter but missed a go-ahead extra point with seconds remaining in regulation. That missed kick sent the game to overtime, where the Cardinals ran out the clock to secure the victory. This marks the third time since 2000 a team has missed a go-ahead point in the final 10 seconds of regulation, joining similar losses by Cincinnati in 2022 and Tampa Bay in 2003.
The Cardinals have now won five straight meetings against the Cowboys, including all five games played at AT&T Stadium. The visitors overcame a 17-3 deficit in the third quarter. Quarterback Gardner Minshew entered the game to replace starter Jacoby Brissett and led the comeback drive.
Arizona running back Tyler Allgeier dominated the ground game, rushing for 147 yards on 11 carries. His 63-yard touchdown run ignited the late-game surge. He added 44 receiving yards, helping the Cardinals total 202 rushing yards at an average of 7.5 yards per carry. By contrast, the Cowboys managed only 93 rushing yards, averaging just 2.4 yards per carry. This is a sharp drop from their performance against Philadelphia the previous week, where they gained more than 200 yards on the ground.
Dak Prescott threw for 195 yards and a touchdown but was sacked four times. One of those sacks occurred during Dallas' only possession in overtime. He also rushed for 20 yards and a score. Javonte Williams carried 24 times for 56 yards, a far cry from his 150-yard effort against the Eagles. CeeDee Lamb led the receiving corps with seven catches for 58 yards, while Ryan Flournoy caught the team's only receiving touchdown.
Defensively, Quinnen Williams recorded two sacks. The Cowboys forced a quarterback change late in the third quarter but could not stop the scoring in the final period. Injuries affected both rosters. Cardinals wide receiver Kendrick Bourne left with an ankle injury, and left tackle Jayden Williams was ruled out with a knee issue. On the Dallas side, rookie safety Caleb Downs exited with a concussion, and tight end Jake Ferguson left in the first quarter with an ankle injury.
The New York Giants hold first place in the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record. The Cowboys and Cardinals both return to action next Sunday. Dallas travels to Indianapolis, while Arizona hosts Seattle.
