Electronic Arts is making 25 classic PC games available on Steam this week, with prices ranging from $4.99 to $9.99. The release includes the full run of the Ultima series and several entries from the Wing Commander franchise.
The most expensive titles in the batch are the seven Anniversary Editions. Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition and the six Wing Commander Anniversary titles will sell for $9.99 each. These versions retain the original visual style and creative intent of the source material. EA also added quality-of-life updates to improve performance and support modern controls.
EA discovered a physical media vault that contained thousands of Betacam, VHS, and D1 tapes. The company used these assets to restore master full-motion video sequences for the Wing Commander and Road Rash games. This process allowed developers to recover and reedit more than 1,500 scenes.
The updated Wing Commander games also include specific community-made modifications. These mods are now officially incorporated into the Anniversary Editions. The other 18 games in the collection, which include the Ultima I through IX series and Crusader titles, will cost $4.99.
Players can purchase the titles on Steam, GOG, and the EA App. The complete list includes Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition, Wing Commander: 35th Anniversary Edition, Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi: 35th Anniversary Edition, Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition, Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition, Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition, and Privateer 2: The Darkening: 30th Anniversary Edition. The remaining titles are Wing Commander: Privateer, Wing Commander: Academy, Wing Commander: Armada, Strike Commander, Theme Hospital, Crusader: No Remorse, Crusader: No Regret, Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness, Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress, Ultima III: Exodus, Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny, Ultima VI: The False Prophet, Ultima VII: The Complete Edition, Ultima VIII: Gold Edition, Ultima IX: Ascension, Ultima Underworld I, and Ultima Underworld II.
