Jesús de Miguel Alameda, a 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife, died at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3. The player passed away hours after being hospitalized following a match incident on the previous day. His death has triggered a series of official mourning events in Tenerife and plans for a private burial in central Spain.
De Miguel was competing against FC Andorra on November 2 when he collided with the opposing goalkeeper, Jesús Owono. Owono left his penalty area to challenge for the ball and struck de Miguel in the chest with his knee. The forward fell to the pitch and was immediately attended to by medical staff. He was transported to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria and placed in the intensive care unit.
The club confirmed his death the following morning. The body will be transferred from the island of Tenerife to Navahermosa in the province of Toledo. This is where the player’s family resides. The transfer is currently awaiting authorization from local authorities. The CD Tenerife team and its management board plan to travel to Toledo to accompany the family during the services.
A public tribute mass is scheduled for Friday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, the same venue where the accident occurred. Club officials, players, and local government representatives will attend the open service. The player’s widow and their 18-month-old daughter, Carla, are expected to attend. The wife will play a central role in supporting the family throughout the farewell proceedings.
The Cabildo, the island's governing body, declared an official day of mourning. Fans have gathered at Gate 9 of the stadium to leave flowers, candles, and written messages in memory of the player. The family requested that the final burial be private, allowing only close relatives, friends, and teammates to participate in the sepulchral service in Navahermosa.
