Irene Miller, 50, was escorted through the Orlando International Airport terminal Friday morning after deputies met her upon landing. The arrest concluded a five-day period during which her four children, ages 9, 11, 12, and 14, remained in their Kissimmee home without overnight adult supervision.

Osceola County Sheriff’s Office records indicate Miller left Florida on October 18 for a work trip to Las Vegas. She told deputies she arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to visit in the mornings to help the children get ready for school. The sheriff’s office noted the sitter was not required to stay overnight. Miller planned to return on October 23.

On October 21, shortly after 8:30 p.m., one of the children called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on her 9-year-old brother’s head. Deputies responded to the residence and found no adults present. Fire rescue crews transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

A deputy contacted Miller by phone while she was still in Las Vegas. She confirmed her location and her return date. Authorities then contacted the children’s father, who agreed to take all four children to his home. Detectives coordinated with the airline to ensure deputies were present when Miller’s flight touched down.

Miller was charged with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm and booked into the Orange County Jail. Sheriff Chris Blackmon stated that the department would not tolerate child neglect and that charges would be brought against parents who fail to properly supervise their children.

Body camera footage released by the sheriff’s office shows deputies placing Miller in handcuffs as she exited the aircraft. The video captures her being led through the terminal without visible resistance.
